St. Jude was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and is best known today as the patron saint of lost causes. Some believe this devotion began because his name was often confused with Judas, the apostle who betrayed Jesus—so few people prayed for St. Jude’s help. Over time, his powerful intercession became a source of great hope for countless people.

After Jesus’ Ascension, St. Jude traveled widely, preaching the Gospel and healing the sick. He is often depicted wearing the Mandylion (Image of Edessa) around his neck—a miraculous image of Jesus given to him to bring healing to a king. St. Jude’s life teaches us to never give up hope. He shows us that there is no such thing as a lost cause for God. Through his intercession, we are reminded to keep our hope in Christ, to persevere in prayer, and to believe in miracles.
